Moving to Texas from Out of State
Moving to Texas from Out of State Does Not Have to Be Overwhelming
Buying a home in a state you have never lived in -- or maybe barely visited -- is a lot. You are making one of the biggest financial decisions of your life from hundreds or thousands of miles away, and the questions pile up fast. What neighborhood? What's traffic actually like? Will I even like it here?
We hear all of this. And we want to tell you something that surprises most of our out-of-state buyers: you do not have to get on a plane before you make an offer. Here is how the Murdock Team makes it work.

We Have Done This With Buyers from Across the Country
Out-of-state moves are a meaningful part of what the Murdock Team does. This year alone we have helped buyers relocate from all over -- and every single one of them started the conversation a little overwhelmed. That is completely normal. By the time we got off that first call, the picture was clearer and the path forward felt real.
Each of these buyers had different timelines, different priorities, and different comfort levels with the process. What they had in common: they all closed on a home they felt confident about -- without having to fly back and forth repeatedly to get there.
You do not need to spend a fortune on plane tickets. The Murdock Team wants to be your eyes and your ears on the ground -- so you can feel genuinely comfortable with your home purchase, even from a thousand miles away.
How We Handle an Out-of-State Purchase, Step by Step
-
1
A Real Conversation First
Before anything else, we get on a call. We want to understand what you are looking for, what your timeline looks like, what matters most, and what is keeping you up at night about this move. That first conversation tends to make things feel a lot less daunting.
-
2
In-Depth Virtual Showings -- Not the Quick Kind
When you cannot be here in person, we are doing detailed, hour-long virtual walkthroughs over FaceTime. We are checking the quality of the trim work. We are going outside to look at the HVAC unit and the propane tank. We are telling you that the paint that looks gray on camera is actually blue in real life. The goal is zero surprises when you eventually walk through the door.
-
3
We Attend the Inspection on Your Behalf
You do not have to be there for the inspection. We are there. We walk through with the inspector, ask the questions, and report back with everything you need to make informed decisions about repairs, negotiations, and whether the home is truly the right fit.
-
4
We Handle the Repair Negotiations
Once the inspection report is in hand, we negotiate on your behalf. You do not need to be in the room or on a call for every back-and-forth. We keep you informed, make recommendations, and advocate for your interests throughout the process.
-
5
Remote Closing Is an Option
Yes, you can close without ever stepping foot in Texas. Remote closings are entirely possible and we have done them. That said, most of our out-of-state buyers do visit toward the end of the process -- often for a final walkthrough and closing -- and that tends to feel like the right moment to see the home and the area in person for the first time.
Everything We Handle So You Don't Have To Be Here
- Detailed virtual showings with real-time FaceTime walkthroughs
- Honest reporting on what the camera does not capture -- colors, finishes, conditions
- Scheduling and attending the home inspection on your behalf
- Negotiating inspection repairs with the seller
- Coordinating with your lender, title company, and any other parties
- Keeping you updated at every stage so nothing comes as a surprise
- Remote closing coordination if you cannot travel to sign in person
What Makes an Out-of-State Purchase Actually Work
Honest Communication
We tell you what the camera misses. If something is off, you will hear it from us first -- not at the walk-through.
Real Local Knowledge
We live and work in Williamson County. We know the neighborhoods, the commutes, and what the market is actually doing right now.
Responsive Access
Time zones can make this tricky. We make it work. Out-of-state buyers get the same responsiveness as anyone local.
No Pressure to Rush
We are not going to push you into something before you feel ready. The right home is worth waiting for, even from afar.
Out-of-state moves are genuinely one of my favorite things to be part of. There is something exciting about helping someone take a big leap, especially when we can make the process feel manageable and not terrifying.
The buyers I remember most are the ones who were the most overwhelmed in that first phone call -- and the most relieved when we closed. That shift is what this is all about. If you are sitting somewhere outside of Texas right now wondering how this is ever going to work, I want to be the person you call first.
