12 Things to Know Before Moving to Liberty Hill, Texas

By Jessica Murdock  •  The Murdock Team at Magnolia Realty  •  Liberty Hill, TX

I have lived and worked in Liberty Hill for years. I love this town. But before you pack the moving truck, I want to give you a real, honest look at what life here is actually like -- the things the brochures don't always spell out.

I put together this video walking through 12 things I wish every future Liberty Hill resident knew before they made the move. Watch it below, then keep reading for more detail on each point.

The 12 Things

  1. 01

    We Actually Have a Downtown

It is not huge and it is still growing, but it is there. Head west on 1869 and you will run right into it. Why the city has not put up a sign pointing to downtown, nobody knows -- but once you find it, you will love it. It has real local character.

  2. 02

    Two High Schools in Town

The original is Liberty Hill High School on the west side of town -- home of the purple and yellow Panthers. And then there is Legacy Ranch High School, which officially opened this year. It is gorgeous. Depending on which side of town you land in, you will be zoned for one or the other -- something worth knowing before you narrow down your neighborhood.

  3. 03

    Football Is King

Whether you love it or not, football is everything in Liberty Hill. Come fall, every party, backyard gathering, and front porch conversation will eventually circle back to Panther football or Wrangler football. It is community. It is tradition. And honestly, it is pretty wonderful to be part of.

  4. 04

    Golf Carts Are Everywhere

No matter what community you live in, it seems like everyone in Liberty Hill has a golf cart. In neighborhoods like Rancho Sienna and Sanorita Ranch, families take their kids to school in them. Out in Rio Ancho where lots run an acre or more, there is no golf course -- but you will still see neighbors rolling through the streets on weekend evenings. It is that kind of place.

  5. 05

Boutique Shopping is a Real Scene Here

One of my favorite things about this town is the number of beautiful local boutiques we have. Drive down Highway 29 and you will see Simply Home -- a bright, beautiful house on the right-hand side. You will also find Blue Door Boutique and a newer shop called Four Daughters, plus more scattered throughout town. A girls' day of shopping and dining in Liberty Hill is genuinely great.

  6. 06

    Local Restaurants Worth Knowing

I honestly wish we had more local restaurants -- but the ones we have, I love. Dalia's has been here forever. It is the kind of place where the kids can run around, you get a great chicken fried steak, and the whole thing feels like home. And then there is Wish Kitchen in the downtown area -- more upscale, and the food is absolutely out of this world.

  7. 07

It Is Growing Fast -- But Still Feels Small

Liberty Hill's growth is no secret. New developments are rising all around us. But somehow this town holds onto its small-town heart. People are friendly. Neighbors wave. The community still feels tight-knit even as the population climbs. That balance is rare, and it is one of the biggest reasons people who move here tend to stay.

  8. 08

River Ranch Park Is a Gem

We have an amazing park in Liberty Hill that opened just a couple of years ago off Baghdad Road. It is called River Ranch Park. Tons of acres, beautiful hiking trails, and the kind of natural space that makes you feel like you traded up when you left the city. If you love the outdoors, this park alone will sell you on Liberty Hill.

  9. 09

    The Schools Are Fabulous

Liberty Hill ISD consistently punches above its weight. The teachers here are incredible. When you ask families why they chose Liberty Hill, schools come up almost every time -- and not just test scores. It is the people, the culture, and the genuine care that teachers put into their students. That does not happen by accident.

  10. 10

    Traffic Is a Real Consideration

With growth comes traffic. Highway 29 runs through the heart of town, and it is our main artery. One fender bender can back things up significantly -- and school drop-off and pickup hours are a whole situation. Where your home sits relative to Highway 29 is worth thinking through before you decide on a neighborhood.

  11. 11

Some Communities Have an Elementary School Right Inside

This is one of those things I always wished I had when my kids were little. Several communities in Liberty Hill have an elementary school built right within the neighborhood -- BarW, Rancho Sienna, and Sanorita Ranch among them. You can walk, hop in the car for two minutes, or yes -- take the golf cart. It changes daily life in the best way.

  12. 12

Liberty Hill Is a Community for All

A lot of people picture Liberty Hill as ranch country -- and we do have some stunning ranches here. But we also have communities with one-acre homesites, and we have neighborhoods with smaller starter homes. No matter where you are in life, there is likely a home and a property here that fits you. That range is what makes this town so special.

What No One Tells You Until You Get Here

Liberty Hill has a personality. It is not just a suburb that happened to grow up around Austin -- it has its own identity, its own traditions, and its own pride. The football culture, the boutique scene, the golf carts, the tight-knit feel that persists even as new rooftops go up -- none of that is accidental.

The things that seem quirky at first (Why does everyone have a golf cart? Why is there no sign for downtown?) become part of what you love about it. Buyers who move here and really settle in almost universally say the same thing: they did not expect to fall in love with a small town, and they absolutely did.

The one thing to plan for honestly is growth -- specifically traffic. If Highway 29 access is going to be a daily friction point for your commute, that is worth mapping out before you commit to a neighborhood. Location within Liberty Hill matters more than people realize.

The neighborhoods closest to downtown and the Highway 183A corridor tend to be the sweet spot for commuters. The farther west and north you go, the more land and privacy you get -- but the more time you add to a drive toward Austin. Neither is wrong; it just depends on how you weigh your priorities.

A Note from Jessica

I live here. I work here. My kids went to school here. When I tell you Liberty Hill is special, I am not saying it as a sales pitch -- I am saying it because I chose it, and I would choose it again.

But I also want you to move here with clear eyes. The traffic is real. The growth is real. And the right neighborhood for your family depends on things that go deeper than square footage and price per foot -- it is about your commute, your kids' school zone, your lifestyle, and what your day-to-day actually looks like.

That is what I help buyers sort through. Let's talk about what Liberty Hill looks like for you specifically.
