P. Terry's Burger Stand Is Coming to Liberty Hill
Austin's favorite local burger chain just picked our town as its next home. Here's everything we know.
If you have lived in Austin for any amount of time, you already know P. Terry's. The drive-up windows, the black Angus smash burgers, the hand-spun shakes, the breakfast sandwiches until 11 a.m. It is one of those places that feels like it has always been part of the city.
Well, Liberty Hill, it is about to feel like part of ours.
P. Terry's Burger Stand has filed plans for a brand-new location at 10990 Highway 29, right next to Wag-A-Bag and Domino's Pizza, directly in front of Liberty Hill's newly opened Target. Construction is expected to begin in January 2027, with an opening targeted for later that year. This will be Location No. 41 for the Austin-born chain.
About the Brand
P. Terry's was founded in Austin in 2005 by Patrick and Kathy Terry. The concept was simple: fresh, quality ingredients, fair prices, and no drive-through clutter. No frozen patties. No shortcut fries. Just 100% Black Angus beef, Idaho Burbank potatoes hand-cut in-store, and milkshakes made to order.
It caught on fast. The chain grew from a single stand on South Lamar to more than 40 locations across Texas, and it has built a reputation that most fast-casual chains spend millions trying to manufacture. Southern Living named it America's best burger chain. The Austin Chronicle has covered it for years. Long lines at lunch are not a bug; they're the point.
What makes P. Terry's stand out is what it refuses to do. No giant menu. No frozen shortcuts. No corporate sprawl. It has grown steadily, picked its spots carefully, and kept the quality consistent from location one to location forty-one.
100% Black Angus Beef
Fresh, never frozen patties. Simple menu, executed right every time.
Hand-Cut Fries
Idaho Burbank potatoes, cut in-house. Not from a bag in the freezer.
Hand-Spun Milkshakes
Real ice cream, made to order. The kind that slows down a drive-through line and nobody minds.
Breakfast Until 11 a.m.
Breakfast sandwiches served every morning, so the early crowd is covered too.
"We are excited to bring P. Terry's Burger Stand to Liberty Hill as we prepare to open our 41st location."
What to Expect and When
Why This Is a Big Deal for Liberty Hill
P. Terry's does not pick locations at random. It has spent 20 years being selective, which is part of why it has the reputation it does. The fact that Liberty Hill made the list says a lot about where this community is headed.
Think about what has landed here in the last few years: Target's first Liberty Hill store at $22 million. New retailers and restaurants arriving at the Hwy. 29 and 183 corridor. Neighborhoods filling in fast. New schools. Growing infrastructure. Liberty Hill is not a small town that might grow someday. It is growing right now, and national brands are paying attention.
For residents who have been here a while, this is validation of something you already knew. For families considering a move to the area, it is one more data point: the amenities you expect in a city are coming to Liberty Hill, and they're arriving at a pace that would have seemed impossible five years ago.
A burger stand might seem like a small thing. But P. Terry's is not just any burger stand. It is a beloved Austin institution, and it just chose Liberty Hill as its next home. That is worth getting excited about.
I get asked all the time what it is actually like to live in Liberty Hill. The honest answer is: it is the best of both worlds. You get space, quiet, and a real community feel, and the city is coming to you. P. Terry's joining us here is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about. We are getting the restaurants, the retailers, and the amenities without having to give up what makes this place special. If you have been curious about making the move to Liberty Hill, I would love to walk you through what life looks like out here.
